Abstract

When rats are subjected to traumatic shock or endotoxin shock after reticulo-endothelial system blockade 2 hours previously by Indian ink, sensitivity to the shock is greatly increased. However, 48 hours after blockade of the reticulo-endothelial system by a larger dose of Indian ink, sensitivity to endotoxin shock was significantly decreased although there was no change in the sensitivity to traumatic shock. In the pathogenesis of shock, the functional state of the reticulo-endothelial system is not decisive but may be contributory.
