Response of BaF2 and YAP

Ce to heavy ions

Abstract

The light output and energy resolution for BaF2 and YAP:Ce were measured with 16O, 35Cl and 79Br in the energy region 8.5-34 MeV to test whether the light yield proportionality observed for gamma radiation is valid for heavy ions as well. Both crystals showed a nonproportional light yield response, mostly pronounced for the lighter ions.
