Residual stress anisotropy in high pressure sodium lamp seals

Abstract

The stress state in high pressure sodium lamp seals was studied. The effect of cyclic indentation loading on crack formation and cracking statistics was also discussed. The cracking ratio was calculated by dividing the number of cracks by the number of all corners. Cyclic loading measurements were performed with 10 indentation on the same location with low loading. The finite element method reveal larger tensile strength in the tangential direction, than in the radial direction.
