Relativistic density-functional theory for ensembles of excited states

Abstract

A relativistic density-functional theory for ensembles of unequally weighted states is formulated. This is a relativistic generalization of the formalism proposed by Gross, Oliveira, and Kohn [Phys. Rev. A 37, 2805 (1988); 37, 2809 (1988); 37, 2821 (1988)]. Application of the theory is illustrated by a simple relativistic local-density (Xα) calculation.
