In polyolefin blends filled with stearic acid treated CaCO3, the surface tension of the filler and the interaction between the polymer and filler decreased after the surface treatment. With increasing surface overlay, the maximum tensile strength decreases. The strength of interaction on the contacting surfaces can be characterised by both the reversible work of adhesion and the surface tension of the contact phase.
