Relationship between the hydrophobicity parameters and phytotoxicity of sulfosuccinic acid esters

Abstract

The phytotoxicity (minimal inhibitory concentration, MIC mM) of 11 sulfosuccinic acid ester surfactants was determined on tobacco leaves. Stepwise regression analysis proved that the effect significantly and nonlinearly depends on the lipophilicity and specific hydrophobic surface area of the surfactants and on the age of the leaves.
