Abstract

The crystalline, spinless μ dimer (1(·+) · PF6)2 was obtained by the oxidation of bipyrrole 1 with ferrocenium hexafluorophosphate. The diamagnetic species generated electrochemically in solution was identified as the σ dimer by NMR spectroscopy.
