Radiation-induced oxidation-reduction processes in the solid state studied by electrode impedance determination

Abstract

Electrode impedance is shown to be a highly sensitive property which characterizes radiation chemical transformation in the solid phase. The low dose β-irradiation of semiconducting iron oxide results in a reversible Fe(II)⇋Fe(III) transition. This process is quantitatively determined by the electrode impedance of the iron oxide if biased anodically.
