Quantum state reconstruction with multiports

The recently proposed arrangement with multiports to spread a light beam over several detectors is analyzed. The use of high efficiency avalanche photodiodes for reconstructing the full quantum state of the system and the problem of measuring relative phase information in the two mode case are discussed.
