Pulse radiolysis of molten polyethylene blends

Abstract

With pulse radiolysis with detection by optical absorption spectroscopy in molten polyethylene containing sterically hindered phenols the generation of stabilizer radicals was found to proceed by three pathways-by trapping of excitons, by reaction of PE alkyl radicals and via electron reaction to phenolate anions with subsequent neutralization. The possibulities of the study of elementary reactions of polymer stabilization by different ageing modes are discussed briefly.
