Production possibility of 60,61,62Cu radioisotopes by alpha induced reactions on cobalt for PET studies

Abstract

Production possibility of 60,61,62Cu radioisotopes by alpha induced reactions on cobalt was analyzed for PET studies. The optimum energy range for the production of 61Cu and 62Cu was found to be 39 → 18 and 18.5 → 6 MeV. The level of 60Cu and 62Cu impurities at 61Cu production decreases to around 1% after a 1 h cooling time. Results indicated that both 62Cu and 61Cu can be produced for practical purposes through alpha induced reactions on cobalt.
