Pressure-Flow Relations in the Vascular Bed of the Rabbit Submandibular Gland

Abstract

Blood flow through the submandibular gland was studied in rabbits by the H2 gas clearance technique. By lowering the arterial pressure in the regional vessels supplying the gland, a corresponding decrease of the glandular perfusion rate was observed. During the pressor response elicited by the unilateral occlusion of the common carotid artery, a vasoconstriction developed in the vascular bed of the contralateral submandibular gland.
