Abstract

In normal individuals, and in patients with ulcerative colitis and colon carcinoma the cytotoxic effect of lymphocytes on fetal human colon epithelial cell culture labeled with Cr51 was examined with a new, semi micromethod. No significant difference was found in the cytotoxic effect of the lymphocytes of the three groups. These results contrast with the data of former examiners. This may be due to differences of the examination methods. It is suggested that in the case of ulcerative colitis the antigen is produced by E. coli or by E. coli and CEA together, and against this antigen complex immune processes develop.
