Preparation of separated Mg isotope targets by reductive evaporation

MgO can be reduced and evaporated, into a thin Mg layer with allmost 100% yield. The reduction is effected by Ta powder in a thin Ta tube heated by electron bombardment. A collimated Mg vapour beam emerges from the open end of the Ta tube.
