Nowadays in prenatal diagnosis researchers focus on noninvasive methods, such as genetic analysis of fetal cells in the maternal circulation. Rate limiting step is the low number of fetal cells found in most maternal samples, so there is a need for enrichment. Isolated fetal cells can be analyzed by fluorescent in situ hybridization or by polymerase chain reaction. In our paper we give an essential review of the results and efficacy of this promising method.
