Abstract

Traditional methods for detecting multi-species patch-dynamics of vegetation usually oversimplify the developing patterns. Vegetation should be viewed as a mosaic of species combinations, rather than separate species patterns. The development of the spatial pattern of species combinations during primary succession was studied on dumps of a strip coal-mine in Hungary. Considerable complexity of vegetation was detected even in the very early stages of succession. -from Author
