Chorioangioma is the most frequently encountered tumor of the placenta. Placental chorioangiomas can lead to serious complications during pregnancy and can influence fetal well-being. The authors review histological findings of placentas examined between 1990 and 2004 at the Histopathological Laboratory Unit of the 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Semmelweis University, Budapest. During these years chorioangioma was diagnosed in 13 cases. The authors summarize complications in these pregnancies and fetal disorders that could possibly be related to the chorioangioma, taking into consideration the cases and literature-review.
