Possibilities of application of machine learning in manufacturing process planning

Abstract

Manufacturing process planning forms an important link between CAD and CAM and essentially determines the organization, economy and productivity of the production. In this paper the knowledge acquisition problem of CAPP systems is investigated. First CAPP as a problem area is described, then an approach to knowledge based CAPP is presented. Based on the investigations on knowledge requirements for CAPP the knowledge is sorted out to four levels, and the appropriate learning methods are discussed.
