Several aspects of a tephra layer present in ten loess sections in Hungary and in Czechoslovakia were investigated: grain size, mafic mineral suites, and chemical composition of bulk samples as well as clinopyroxenes. The tephra is identical in all localities, and the name "Bag Tephra' was given to it. This tephra allows us to propose a new stratigraphical correlation of the investigated loess sections. The tephra fall occurred after the Mindel/Riss Interglaciation. -from Authors
