Abstract

The level and composition of phospholipids in the plasma and blood cells of multiple sclerosis patients as well as control patients were investigated by column and thin layer chromatography. Neither the total nor the individual phospholipid content of the blood showed any significant difference. The level of individual phospholipids oscillated in the plasma and in the blood cells of both control and MS patients, and the resulting oscillations may be greater in the case of MS. This finding may explain the fact that some authors have reported contradictory data concerning the phospholipids in the blood of MS patients.
