Basic principles, mechanism, membrane and module types of pervaporation as a widely used membrane separation process are reviewed. Application possibilities in industrial scale (applied separation) and laboratory scale (fundamental research), and its usage as separated downstream unit operation as well as part of integrated systems are summarized.
