Changes in the importance of poultry parasitoses due to the shift from extensive to intensified poultry production systems is surveyed. Developments in the control of coccidiosis, emerging anticoccidial resistance and vaccination practices introduced to major host species is outlined in details. Problems to control histomonosis (blackhead) of turkeys, advances in the treatment and prevention of relevant helminth infections, such as ascaridiosis, heterakiosis, syngamosis and amidostomosis of the affected bird species are summarized. Finally, reappearing red mite infection (dermanyssosis) of birds is dealt with.
