Paramagnetic centres in aluminium‐oxide layers prepared by anodic oxidation

Abstract

By means of complex ESR and optical absorption studies it is shown that in Aatokolor‐HSH anodic oxide films Al colloids contribute to the colour but are surely not its only source. In Autokolor‐HSH film a paramagnetic free radical (containing carbon) appears after thermal treatment. In SA and Korundkolor‐MBS= oxide films X‐irradiation produces F+‐like centres. Both centres give rise to the optical absorption but none of them can explain the colour in the untreated state. In SA layers O ions are observed after heat treatment or X‐irradiation. Thus the behaviour of various types of integral anodic films is rather complex and the origin of their colours does not seem to be uniform.
