Abstract

ESR and optical absorption studies show that in Autokolor-HSH anodic oxide films Al colloids contribute to the color but are not its only source. In Autokolor-HSH film a paramagnetic free radical (containing carbon) appears after thermal treatment. In SA and Korundkolor-MBS oxide films X-irradiation produces F** plus -like centers. Both centers give rise to optical absorption but none can explain color in the untreated state. In SA layers O** minus ions are observed after heat treatment or X-irradiation.
