Optimization of harmonic oscillator wavefunction squeezing in pulsed electronic transitions

Abstract

Effective potentials of displaced harmonic oscillators within the Born-Oppenheimer approximation are used to optimize pulsed transitions between electronic levels. Pulse durations considered were about as long as a vibrational period but the envelope of the pulse could vary on a shorter time scale. The usual optimization strategy was modified to help avoid local maxima in the optimization procedure. The objective of optimization was to position the wavefunction on the ground or the excited levels and to squeeze the original ground vibrational wavefunction.
