Optimal load transmission by flexure

Abstract

The minimum weight design of both perfectly plastic and elastic grillages of given strength as well as elastic grillages of given stiffness and fibre-reinforced plates of given strength is considered. After stating the common kinematic conditions of optimality for the foregoing problems, optimal solutions are given for a variety of boundary conditions, and certain features of the solutions are discussed.
