Abstract

Operator splitting is a widely applied computational procedure in the numerical integration of long-range air pollution transport models. It is based on a decomposition of the model problem into smaller sub-problems, which are connected through their initial conditions. In this paper we apply four different splitting techniques in the Lagrangian FLEXPART model. The results are compared with measurement data collected during the ETEX experiment.
