On the synthesis of benzodipyrans

Abstract

The reaction of 2,2-dimethyl-7-hydroxy-4-chromanone and 3-methylbut-2-enoic acid in zinc chloride/phosphorus oxychloride and aluminum chloride/phosphorus oxychloride leads to the formation of a series of benzodipyran derivatives. The structures of intermediates as well as the final regioisomer products were determined by 1H-NMR and MS methods.
