Abstract

Preventive medicine/public health as a double-semester subject is present in the undergraduate curricula of all the four Hungarian medical schools. The authors from the University of Pécs discuss the recent results and experiences of their laboratory program involved in this curriculum. The topics of laboratory practices performed by the medical students are the following: water and food microbiology and chemistry, parasitology, radiohygiene, hygienic genotoxicology and preventive aspects of molecular biology. The results of the laboratory studies are indicated by the more effective learning, improvement of laboratory (manual) skills and increased prestige of the subject.
