In the last few years, Hungarian geologic research has undergone radical structural and financial changes, about which foreign scientific and practical professional circles have not generally obtained proper knowledge. The aim of the present study is to offer a brief survey of the new structure of geologic research in Hungary, of research work under way and the main objectives. The review covers the traditional branches of geology (general and applied geology, tectonics, stratigraphy, palaeontology, mineralogy, petrology, sedimentology and geochemistry.
