Abstract

Chemiluminescence generated by zymosan-stimulated macrophage cells in the presence of luminol has been studied in order to obtain information concerning the possible interference with the free radical production in the course of the oxidation of luminol. Analytical solution of the corresponding differential equations and computer simulation revealed that this effect is negligible if the amount of free radicals produced by the biological system is not too low.
