Abstract

The economic preconditions of applying solar energy to drying can be fulfilled by optimization using a simulation model and procedure of the solar system and its controlling strategy. By the simulation procedure the time functions of the state of material to be dried have to be determined on the basis of arbitrary time function of the input parameters of the solar system. The solar convective dryer is a compound thermal system. Its simulation model consists of the part-models of the solar collectors, of the heat storage, of the heat exchangers, of the flow system, of the dryer and of the controlling system. As an example of application the numerical analysis of a solar lucerne bed dryer is performed.
