Nuclear resonance scattering of synchrotron radiation at the 21.5 keV resonance of 151Eu

Abstract

151Eu is one of the most important probes for the investigation of solid-state properties using standard Mößbauer spectroscopy. Additional information about the interesting magnetic and structural features of Eu compounds can be expected if nuclear resonance scattering in the time domain is applied. We extended the now well-established technique of nuclear resonance scattering of synchrotron radiation to this isotope. In this work we report on the newly developed high-resolution γ-ray optics for the 21.5 keV transition in 151Eu, the identification of the resonance in an energy scan, and the observation of quantum beats in the time spectrum of a Eu2O3/EuS powder mixture.
