NONSHARP DISTILLATION SYSTEMS

PARAMETRIC STUDY FOR DISTRIBUTING RECOVERY RATIOS.

Abstract

For synthesizing multicomponent distillation systems with sharp and nonsharp separations, a two-step classification procedure is proposed. At the first step, the mixture to be separated and the number of products with desired compositions are specified. At the second step, the feasible separation processes satisfying product specifications are selected. With the aid of the two-step approach, all types of distillation problems, including nonsharp separation, can be categorized. Computer aided parametric study is performed to observe the effect of changing the feed mole fraction and recovery ratio on economics of separation sequences for a three-component hydrocarbon mixture. Simple expression is developed for predicting the optimal distribution of the recovery ratio in the distillation columns.
