Nonlinear raman spectroscopy of liquids

Abstract

Research carried out by an experimental set-up built in our laboratory suitable for CARS* and RIKE** measurements is reported. A summary of the theoretical foundations is followed by the description of the polarized CARS set-up employed for broad-band technique. To assess the quality of the set-up we have measured the polarization sensitive CARS spectrum of monochloro-benzene and observed three vibrational modes in the 912-1112 cm-1 wavenumber region. The spectra of 2-methyl-pirazine measured in the same region are presented. We have defined the depolarization constants and estimated the rate of the Raman-scattering cross-section. The procedure of RIKE measurements demonstrated in liquid sample to obtain the spectrum of benzene is described.
