Abstract

In our project proposal, submitted in 2000, we summarized our ideas about the actual trends in magnetotellurics, and we formulated several realistic magnetotelluric tasks to be carried out in the Carpathian-Pannonian basin. The main objectives were as follows: (1) Elaboration of a new magnetotelluric imaging technique, based on the properties of the impedance tensor to investigate subsurface (first of all deep) geological structures, (2) Investigation of a possible relation between the neo- and deep tectonics, (3) A unified processing and interpretation of MT data along basic profiles in the Carpathian-Pannonian basin, enbling a more unambiuous intrepretation of other geophysical anomalies. In our project proposal altogether 9 various tasks were formulated. This summary is a simplified version of the final report, submitted to the Hungarian National Scientific Research Fund.
