Abstract

Summary form only given. The authors report on a new approach to the generation of ultrashort ultraviolet (UV) pulses with gigawatt output power based on controlled resonator transients in a cascade-type quenched dye laser, which intersects an EMG 150 excimer oscillator-amplifier system. The majority of the pulses consisted of only a single spike shorter than 10 ps. A few appeared with a double spike but still within a 20-ps envelope.
