Abstract

Lower Miocene volcaniclastites of the Bisciaro Fm. represent the explosional products of volcanic activity from intermediate to acid composition (calcalkaline suite) along an active margin. These volcanic products can be compared with coeval analogous levels in the Mediterranean Region. The aim of this comparison is to verify the applicability of similar manifestations as indicators of significant volcanic phases in the geodynamic evolution. The diffusion and composition of these volcaniclastic rocks reflects a calc-alkaline magma source probably connected to a subduction zone, along a continental margin located in the central-western Mediterranean internal zones. -from Authors
