Neutral regulation of intrarenal circulation

Abstract

The effect of carotid occlusion and denervation on the intrarenal blood flow distribution has been estimated with the rubidium fractionation technique. With the increase of sympathetic vasoconstrictor activity the renal blood flow decreased as measured both directly and with the 86Rb technique. The reduction of cortical blood flow was less and the decrease of the medullary flow was more pronounced than that of the total renal blood flow. If a certain renal vascular resistance was achieved, the ratio of medullary to cortical resistance became nearly constant.
