Abstract

In subacute experiments low doses of lindane (2.5 to 50 mg/kg body weight) were fed to rats. Experiments for testing the functional state of the central nervous system (maze learning, operant conditioning) indicated that these functional tests are suitable for early detection of mild impairments of the nervous system. Liver function tests and histological examinations performed at the same time were negative. Considering that the possibility of lindane intake still exists, the author recommends psychological examination of those who are exposed to lindane. These tests might reveal the onset of any intoxication in its early, reversible state.
