Abstract

The dopaminergic system of schizophrenic patients with or without tardive dyskinesia was investigated by estimating: CSF DOPAC and cAMP, serum dopamine-β-hydroxylase activity, and neuroendocrine responses to dopamine agonist and antagonist. The biochemical and endocrinological data showed great variance in both groups. These findings suggest heterogenous involvement of the dopaminergic system in the pathophysiology of tardive dyskinesia.
