Abstract

Endoscopic kidney stone removal was performed in 3060 cases from November 1984 through June 30, 1991. Among them, 535 staghorn calculi were removed with 760 percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) procedures. According to the authors' experience, stones of all types and shapes can be removed with PCNL alone. There were few serious complications. In three cases, open operations had to be performed because of postoperative bleeding. In seven cases, a septic condition was observed; nephrectomy was performed in one case. In 37 cases, the authors performed preoperative and postoperative renal scintigraphy and camera renography, and in 27 of the cases, the kidney function was found to have improved.
