Nematic-liquid-crystal-air interface in a radial Hele-Shaw cell: Electric field effects

Abstract

The morphology of a nematic crystal layer under an applied electric field was studied in a radial Hele-Shaw cell. In regard with it, the liquid crystal's effective viscosity was tuned by the applied field and by the flow. At low excess pressure the surface morphology was not affected by the field, but at high pressure significant morphological changes were observed.
