Monte carlo approach to dendritic growth

Abstract

The connection between diff usion-limited aggregation and the equations of dendritic growth is critically examined. A different type of Monte Carlo simulation is proposed and used to construct two-dimensional dendrite-like patterns. The wavelength occurring for short times is in good agreement with the linear stability analysis. The time dependence of the characteristic wavelengths is also determined.
