Mn2+/54Mn2+ heterogeneous isotope exchange reaction on montmorillonite in the presence of complex-forming agents

Abstract

The heterogeneous isotope exchange reaction of 54Mn2+/Mn- montmorillonite in the absence of complex-forming agents is studied at different temperatures and pH values. The number of active sites is determined. The heterogeneous isotope exchange is examined in the presence of complex-forming agents (ethylene-diamine tetra-acetic acid and nitrilo-triacetic acid). The conditions (the ratio of Mn:complex- forming agent and pH) needed for the total desorption of manganese from the surface of montmorillonite are given.
