Commercial alumina powders were digested by a microwave digestion system and the impurities were analysed in various acids and acid mixtures using ICP-AES. The physico-chemical properties (phase composition, grain size) of the different samples were found to influence highly the decompostition efficiency. Optimised decomposition parameters were developed for the samples with different physico-chemical properties. The detection limits of the impurities of interest are presented, the analysis results of the alumina dosimetric samples and standards are given as well.
