Micro and nano-indentation of MoSi2

Abstract

The micro/nano hardness of an as-received and as-deformed MoSi2 was studied in order to compare the hardness values and influence of pre-strain on the micro/nano hardness. It was observed that mirror polished samples prepared by conventional ceramography were used for hardness test. The measurement of conventional hardness was carried out using Leco LM700AT microhardness tester. The result shows that the pre-strain could change deformation ability and hardness of the MoSi2 even at room temperature.
