Metastable Antiprotonic Helium Atoms

Abstract

Laser spectroscopy of the anomalously long living antiprotonic helium atoms started in 1993 when the first laser-stimulated antiprotonic transition was observed at CERN. As a result of systematic experimental and theoretical studies w:e have now a comprehensive picture of this system as a three-body bound state of a helium nucleus, an electron and an antiproton, in complete agreement with the experiment.
