Mechanisms of controlled growth of metallic nanocrystals

Abstract

The mechanisms of controlled growth of metallic nanocrystals were discussed. Spherical and cubic Pt nanoparticles and spherical, cubic and disk-shaped Co nanocrystals were found to be produced by reduction of Pt2+- ion and decomposition of organometallic reagents in hot solvent. The ability to control crystal growth and production of a range of nanoparticle shape in the case of two different metallic elements was also elaborated.
