Investigations of the influence of the most critical parameter, the probe size, on collected particle fluxes are presented. Plasma ion fluxes in both toroidal directions were monitored in the scrape-off layer of the MT-1 tokamak using single Langmuir probes and Mach number probes with different size of the separation sheet. The sheet sizes were between 3 × 3 mm2 and 15 × 15 mm2 and should disturb the local plasma at the sheet location in a quite different extent. The measurements show that the influence of the probe size on collected particle fluxes is much lower than expected from simple diffusion models.
